Simona Halep wins an incredible match at the Australian Open against a fantastic Lauren Davis in the 3rd round.

After splitting the first 2 sets, Simona and Lauren engaged in an amazing battle that ended deep in the 3rd set. When Simona failed to serve out the match twice while she was leading 5-4 and 6-5 it seemed that the Romanian was poised to have a heartbreaker. Things got even nastier for the world no.1 that later was facing 3 consecutive match points when she was 10-11 down. Eventually, Simona took full advantage of her experience to save them all before breaking Lauren in the 27th game (yes 27th, it’s not a typo). Halep managed to hold the following game to win the contest 4-6 6-4 15-13 after 3 hours and 45 minutes.

This will definitely stay as one of best matches in the history of the Australian Open as both players did fight with everything they had and the quality of tennis was spectacularly high till the very end.

I am almost dead. HALEP

Soon after the match, Simona was completely exhausted to comment

“I never played a third set so long. I’m almost dead. My muscles are gone. I don’t know how my ankle is because I can’t feel it anymore.”

Simona will face either Ashleigh Barty or Naomi Osaka in the 4th round.
