Dimitrov survives world no.186

Grigor Dimitrov is one of the favorites to win the Australian Open, and it looked a bit unfair that he had to face the world no.186 Mackenzie McDonald in the second round.

In fact, the American crashed out in the Playford Challenger 6-4 6-4, and it was even a surprise that he qualified or the Australia Open main draw. Eventually, the McDonald played the match of his life (so far) and he managed to bring Dimitrov to the 5th set after serving a bagel (6-0) in the 4th.

The Bulgarian was playing one of the worst matches in his career, but he managed to stay in touch with his opponent even if Grigor had practically no backhand. Eventually, it was the American to fold at the very end, and Grigor won the match 4-6 6-2 6-4 0-6 8-6.

Next vs. Rublev

Grigor will play Andrey Rublev in the 3rd round. The head to head is 1-0 for Rublev that defeated Dimitrov last year at the US Open. Grigor needs to play a much better tennis than today if he wants to avenge that loss.

WINNING UGLY, but winning!
