Tsonga beats Shapovalov after epic

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Denis Shapovalov didn’t disappoint their fans to play a fantastic match in the Australian Open 2nd round.

The match

The Frenchman had to use all his experience to recover from a 1-2 sets deficit before coming back from a desperate situation in the decider when Denis was leading 5-2. After holding serve in the 8th game of the 5th set (5-3), Tsonga had a great reading of Shapovalov that was clearly struggling with his nerves while he was serving for the match. Eventually, Jo-Wilfried put the right pressure on the 18-year-old that committed 1 double fault after he squandered 2 easy backhands. Eventually, it was Tsonga that managed to conquer the crucial break after a fantastic volley (5-4). Jo-Wilfried was then in full control to break Shapovalov again and win the match 3-6 6-3 1-6 7-6 (4) 7-5.

After this match, the head to head between Tsonga and Shapovalov is 1-all as the Canadian beat him last year at the US Open.
