Sascha Zverev starts his Australian Open campaign after beating a tougher than expected opponent. In fact, the German was facing the world no. 73 Thomas Fabbiano in the opener, a player that has a rather good history in playing Challengers (last year he won 3 of them), but hasn’t found his way at ATP level.
Things were not as smooth for Sascha. In fact, after winning the first set 6-1, the German was forced to recover from a 1-break down in the 2nd, and the 3rd set after the Italian failed to serve-out the sets on both occasions.
Eventually, Zverev managed to close the deal to win the match 6-1 7-6 (5) 7-5 after blasting 47 winners (17 aces).
I was more intense on my returns. ZVEREV
Soon after the match, Sascha commented: “I think I picked up my energy a little bit and was a little more intense on my returns.”
Next vs. Gojowczyk
The world no.4 will face the world no.62 Peter Gojowczyk in the second round. They have never played each other so far.
TRICKY, BUT THROUGH
