Serena Williams downs Radwanska to win her 5th Wimbledon

It’s Serena’s day!!!

The American takes it all!

Serena had a remarkable comeback on the tennis stage after battling against 2 foot surgeries, and an horrible pulmonary embolism and a blood clot that threatened her life. The American was determined to go back in style and she did it!

The start of the match was quite one sided. After winning an easy first game, Serena managed to break Agnieszka in the second (a game that lasted 16 points). Then it was game over for the opening set (6-1 for the American). Serena was in firm control also in the second set to lead 4-2, but it was time for the Pole to come back and break twice her opponent to win the second set. Was it time for Serena’s meltdown? Not at all! Serena started the 3rd set in style to win a golden game (4 aces in a row) and a decisive point in the 7th game with a courageous drop shot.

GOLDEN GAME

After her win Serena reflects on the tough moments she had to face in the recent times. “I didn’t give up . . . I had the blood clot, I had lung problems, I had two foot surgeries. It was a lot. I felt like I didn’t do anything to bring on that.”

“That made her realize where her life was, really, and where she really belonged and that she really loved the game,” said her mother  “You never appreciate anything until you almost lose it.”

“It’s her weapon, the serve,” said Radwanska. “That’s why she has won the tournament five times.I had the best two weeks of my life. Serena was too good for me, but I’m just so happy to be in the final.”

Serena will be ranked world no.4.

The Williams sister had to wrap up the forthnight in style by winning the doubles a couple of hours later against Hlavackova and Hradecka.

Good stuff!
