Roberto Bautista-Agut wins his 7th career title after defeating Juan Martin Del Potro in the ASB Classic final in Auckland.
The Spaniard had to engage in a very tough battle against the Argentine that bounced back in style after he was trashed in the first set (6-1) to win the second set (6-4) and bring the affair to the decider. Eventually, it was Roberto to win the decisive break in the 11th game of the 3rd set before winning the contest 6-1 4-6 7-5 in 2 hours and 7 minutes.
After this match, Del Potro still leads Bautista-Agut 3-2 in head to head matches.
It was a great week.
After winning the title, Roberto commented
“It’s been a fantastic week for me. I gave everything I have on the court this week. It was an unbelievable match today. I’ve been fighting a lot on the court. I played two amazing games at the [end] of the match.”
The Spaniard will now head to Melbourne where he will face his compatriot Fernando Verdasco. The head to head is 3-1 for Fernando, but Roberto will be full of confidence after this title.
