Why I lost to Del Potro. SHAPOVALOV

Denis Shapovalov had high expectations ahead of his 2nd round clash against Juan Martin Del Potro. Denis played fantastic tennis against Dutra Silva in the 1st round and the Canadian was hoping to defeat Juan Martin again in Auckland after he beaten him in Montreal last year.

Things didn’t go that well for Denis that lost 6-2 6-4.

Why I lost to Del Potro. SHAPOVALOV

The 18-year-old wasn’t depressed after losing to the Argentine. On the contrary, he had a good analysis of his match to say

“My game is always to go for my shots. But there’s always a limit and that’s always been a case when I was growing up that I would go for too much.

There was a bit of calming myself, getting into longer rallies. It’s always something I’ve battled, but today in a big match like this I was excited and going for a bit too much at certain points.

Against a guy like Del Potro, you don’t need to make many mistakes to get broken.”

Talking about his future, Denis added

“So, it’s going to be a lot of work, it’s not going to happen overnight. I’m still going to hit the gym and the tennis court every day and keep working hard.”

That’s a good mentality. Still… long way to go, the guy is ranked “only” number 50… for the moment.
