Fantastic start for the season for Julia Goerges that wins her 5th career title in Auckland after beating Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets.
Ranked world no.14, Julia had a fantastic run in New Zealand to drop just 1 set during the entire week. In the final, Goerges won 6-4 7-6 (4) after losing only 1 service game in the second set.
It’s an amazing start of the year
Soon after the win, Julia commented
“I’ve been quite consistent in this tournament over the years, and it’s nice to finally get this nice big trophy.
It’s an amazing start to the season, and I must say I’ve always had great starts to the season in Auckland. But the next day the work is going to start again, it doesn’t mean anything to me at the next event because I’ve won three titles. So I always need to keep improving and working hard.”
After this win, Julia leads Caroline 6-4 in H2H matches (2-1 in Auckland). The German is now expected to go and compete in Sydney where is should face Sam Stosur in the opener.
