Gilles Simon wins the title in Pune

Gilles Simon must be a very happy guy right now.

Ranked only world no. 89 and at 33 years of age, the Frenchman is definitely at the end of his great career. Gilles hasn’t won a tournament since 2015 when he triumphed in Marseille against Gael Monfils, and it seems that that was the last triumph of his career.

Eventually, Simon decided to play in Pune where he had to beat 3 fantastic players to win the title after he defeated Roberto Bautista-Agut, Marin Cilic, and Kevin Anderson.

This is Simon’s 13 career title, and the first time that he defeats Kevin Anderson. He has now a 1-3 head to head record against the South African. After the match, Gilles admitted “It’s the first time I managed to beat him. I still don’t know how I did it. I’m really, really happy I was able to make it.”

Simona will now head to Sydney where he is supposed to face Jared Donaldson in the opener if he won’t be too tired.
