Kyrgios surprises Dimitrov to reach the final in Brisbane

Nick Kyrgios wins one of his strange matches at the Brisbane International against Grigor Dimitrov.

Ranked no.21, the Australian is capable to beat anyone if he is in his right mind and he did it today. At the very beginning, Nick didn’t look that well in the semifinal against the Bulgarian after he dropped his serve in the 5th game of the opening set after trying a completely inopportune tweener that gave a strong 4-2 lead to his opponent.

Eventually, Dimitrov went on winning the 1st set, but things got complicated soon after. In fact, Kyrgios found his range to demolish his opponent in the second set (6-1) and bring everything to the decider.

In the third set, Grigor dropped his service in the 7th game (3-4), and Kyrgios had to “just” hold 2 service games to win the encounter 3-6 6-1 6-4.

The incredible stat of the match is Nick blasting 19 aces.

I didn’t want to give him too much rhythm. KYRGIOS

Soon after the match, Nick explained what he wanted to do to win the encounter

“I hadn’t beaten him before. Going into today, I knew that I was going to do something a little different. I was going to kind of just not give him too much rhythm. Come in a lot, be super aggressive off my returns. And obviously try and just serve, just serve pretty much anywhere and just play aggressive.

He played a pretty solid first set. I played a pretty loose game to get broken. And then, pretty much from then on, I felt pretty in control of the match.”

The final vs. Harrison

Kyrgios will face Ryan Harrison in the final. The American defeated Alex De Minaur, the surprise of the tournament, 4-6 7-6 (5) 6-4 after being 2 points from defeat. Kyrgios leads Harrison 2-0 in head to head match, and he is definitely the favorite to win the title.

Kyrgios has won only 3 career titles. Time to go for more.
