DOPING. Bellucci banned for 5 months

Bad news for the Brazilian tennis as Thomaz Bellucci has been found positive to doping.

What happened?

The former world no.21 was tested positive at the Swedish Open in Bastad for the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide that can cover other substances.

According to the tennis player, a vitamin supplement was accidentally contaminated by the hydrochlorothiazide. The Brazilian commented

“I could never imagine that a multivitamin made by a pharmacy could suffer crossed contamination in minimal amounts. I always took care and respected the rules.”

Why the ban is only for 5 months. According to a statement from International Tennis Federation (ITF), “Mr. Bellucci’s account of how the hydrochlorothiazide got into his system was accepted and that he bears No Significant Fault or Negligence for the violation.”

Now ranked world no.112, Bellucci hasn’t played since August, and therefore he will be back for the ATP tournament in Quito that will take place February the 5th.
