Simona Halep storms in the Shenzhen final

Too good!

Simona Halep has no problems in dismissing her friend and compatriot Irina-Camelia Begu 6-1 6-4 in just 89 minutes in the semifinal of the Shenzhen Open.

After winning the first set in no time, Simona had to battle a bit in the second. In fact, after breaking Irina-Camelia in the 3rd game (2-1), the world no.1 conceded her serve soon after (2-2). Eventually, Simona had to break Begu once more in the 7th game (4-3) before winning the contest.

After this victory, Halep leads Begu 4-0 in head to head matches.

I was strong in the end. HALEP

After the match, Simona commented

“It was a tough match; I know that she’s a very strong player and in the second set, you could see that she was improving her game. I was strong enough to hit the ball [well] in the end, and I’m really proud of my victory today. It was a tough one.”

The final vs. Siniakova

Simona will face the defending champion Katerina Siniakova in the final. The Czech has won the Shenzhen Open in 2017 after defeating Alison Riske 6-3 6-4. Katerina reaches this final after beating the former world no.1 Maria Sharapova 6-2 3-6 6-3 in the semifinal.

The head to head is 1-0 for Siniakova that has defeated Simona last year in the 2nd round of the Shenzen Open. The world no.1 will try to avenge that to conquer her 16th career title.
