Murray and Tsonga advance to the quarters – 2012 Wimbledon

MURRAY – CILIC 7-5 6-2 6-3

Andy is coming out from the terrible quarter in great style and as confident as ever. The Scott seems to be poised to get to the final because of his confident tennis and also (and especially) because of the early exit of Rafa. This time he managed to beat Cilic in straight sets.

“It’s tough. You can build momentum and build leads, then when you stop, come back out again, you feel like you’re starting from square one. He started the third set well. He had a few chances. I came up with some big serves. I served very well, in the third set especially.”, Murray said.

Talking about his next opponent, David Ferrer, the Scott said “To me he’s not a clay court specialist. He won last week on grass, so he’s won, what, eight matches in a row on the grass? He’s been in the semi-finals of Australia, I think semi-finals of the US Open, as well, and now he’s starting to play better on grass. I don’t see him as a clay-court specialist at all.”

It is interesting how the main barrage to the final seems to be a “different” Spaniard, alias not Nadal, but Ferrer. David had an inspiring victory to dispatch Del Potro 6-3 6-2 6-3.

Head to head is 5-5. Murray and Ferrer ever played each other on the grass.

TSONGA – FISH 4-6 7-6 (4) 6-4 6-4

No problems for the Frenchman that managed to defeat Mardy Fish in 4 sets to reach the quarter finals. Jo wasn’t even sure to play in Wimbledon after he got injured at Queens (see article here).

Jo will play Kohlschreiber in the quarter final. The German eclipsed the hopes of Baker by winning 6-1 7-6 (4) 6-3.

Head to head is 4-1 for the Frenchman. They never played each other on the grass.
