World no.208 Alex De Minaur produces a great upset at the Brisbane International.
The 18-year-old dismisses a below-par Milos Raonic 6-4 6-4 after he broke the Canadian 3 times. The difference between the two in the opening set was just a break in 3rd game (2-1) for the Australian. Things got even easier for Alex in the second set after he broke Raonic twice to conquer a solid 5-2 (and 2 breaks up) lead. Eventually, the 18-year-old failed to serve out the match at the first attempt, but he didn’t miss it the second time to win the encounter 6-4 6-4.
I can’t believe it. DE MINAUR
Soon after the match, the youngster commented
“I honestly can’t believe it. It’s going to take a while for me to believe what’s happened just now.
I was going to come out here, compete my hardest and give it my all and I actually ended up playing an unbelievable match.”
Next vs. Mmoh
Alex will play another surprising #nextgen: Michael Mmoh. Ranked world no.175, the American has surprised Mischa Zverev after he defeated the German 6-2 5-7 6-4. Alex and Michael have never played each other at pro level.
