FEDERER – MALISSE 7-6 (1), 6-1, 4-6, 6-3

Roger survives another scare. In the last match he recovered from 2 sets down with Benneteau (see article here), this time he struggled with his back. It all came at the beginning of the match. Roger could move at all and he incredibly managed to be able to win the first set at the tiebreak. Then he was considerably helped by rain delay at the beginning of the second that allowed him to receive more treatment. Apparently the problem came from a series of factors such as a cold weather, a couple of poor night sleeps and of course his 5 sets battle with Benneteau.

“Today was obviously tough conditions, a lot of wind, cold, rain delay, I had the back thing going,” Roger said . “So obviously it was hard to get any sort of rhythm.”

Talking about all the controversy if it is right to close the roof in the Centre Court before an expected rain “Actually, I was happy they kept it open because this is an outdoor tournament at the end of the day,” the Swiss said. “To see the referee coming out and inspecting courts, that’s the whole drama of Wimbledon. Eventually if it’s too bad and it’s really raining, this is when you shut it.”

The good news for Roger and hi fans is that apparently this kind pain to the back shouldn’t occur the next match. “I’ve had bad backs over the years,” Federer said . “They go as quick as they come.”

Roger will play Youzhny in the quarter finals. The Russian came out a 5 setters battles with Istomin 6-3 5-7 6-4 6-7 (5) 7-5. Roger leads 13-0.

DJOKOVIC – TROIKI 6-3 6-1 6-3

Troicki was happy to emember ho in the junior tournaments he could beat Nole… but… time has changed… as a lot. The match was a one way traffic with Nole in full control from the begining to the end.

“I think I played really well throughout the whole match,” Djokovic said. “We know each other so well – the first match we played against each other he was nine years old, I was eight years old back in Serbia in a local tournament.

“So there’s no secrets between us and it’s never easy to play your very good friend, somebody you grew up with, but today there had to be one loser.”
