Murray advances. Baker still in his fairy tale. Shvedova and Serena make history – 2012 Wimbledon

What a day! We had a couple of incredible records from the ladies and the 2nd longest match in Wimbledon History.

MURRAY – BAGHDATIS 7-5 3-6 7-5 6-1

The Scott had a tricky match against Baghdatis. After winning the opener 7-5 he had to cope with a fierce comeback from Marcos that won the second set 6-3. Then it was time for a tough battle in the third won by Murray 7-5 before experiencing Baghdatis’ collapse in the 4th (lost 6-1). There was a bit of thriller at the end of the match since following the rules, the match had to be stopped at 11pm. So Andy rushed his service game to wrap up the set.

“I was under the impression I was stopping at 11 regardless of what the score was – even if it was in the middle of a game. I am obviously glad I managed to get the finish. The atmosphere at the end was excellent.”

Murray will play a very tired Cilic in the next round. Cilic won the second longest match ever in Wimbledon (after the super marathon between Isner and Mahut) to defeat Querrey in 5 hours and half 7-6 (6), 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-7 (3), 17-15.

“I tried to put that way from my mind because I just wanted to focus on my game and I didn’t want to let anything intefere with that,” Cilic said. “The difficult thing is that you are always thinking that you are close, that you are going to break and eventually, the game keeps going and the set is getting longer and still you have to be really focused. Definitely of course, big time I’m glad that I came through.”

It is interestig that the Scott had an horribl draws, but he managed to get through in style. On top of it he avoided to play some nasty players (eg. Raonic and Dimitrov) due to early exits.

BAKER – PAIRE 6-4 4-6 6-1 6-3

Baker keeps on marching to reach the last 16 in style. This time it was a 4 set victory against Paire.
Baker is not done yet…. next with Kohlschreiber.

INTERTESTING  STUFF

Shvedova wins a record golden set by defeating Sara Errani 6-0 6-4. Shvedova set a record by winning all points in the first set. That was not nice for Sara that grabbed an early lead in the 2nd set to then lost it at 4.

“I had no idea. I was just playing every point and every game. I didn’t feel like every game was 40-love, only in the second set,” she said.

“I remember first or second ball of the second set she won. All the people started to clap and scream. I was like, What’s going on? I even smiled. I was, like, Okay, they want to see a good match.

“Then in the gym after the match, when I was cooling down, my coach came, and he’s like, ‘Did you know someone told me the stats about you and not losing a point?’. I was like, ‘Really? Like not making unforced errors or not losing points?’ Not losing a point. So it was incredible.”

Serena defeated Zheng 6-7 (5) 6-2 9-7 blasting a ladies record of 23 aces. No bad!
