Kei Nishikori is not starting his 2018 in the best possible way. The 27-year-old from Japan stopped his season just before Cincinnati because of a wrist injury. Now ranked no.22, Kei was meant to be back to competitions in January in Brisbane, but unfortunately, he won’t be able to do that.
The statement
Kei released the following statement
“I am so disappointed to miss Brisbane this year. For years it’s been my first tournament of the season, and I always feel so at home there. I really look forward to coming back to Brisbane in the future”
A few months ago the Japanese confessed he wasn’t even sure to play in Australia to comment
“I can’t say when I’ll heal from my injury, so I’m trying not to rush anything,” Nishikori told Japanese media.
I’m aiming for the Brisbane International, but it could be February, or even March, who knows. I want to make sure I’m in top form when I’m back on tour, so I’m in a position to win a Masters or Grand Slam title.
I also hope I’m mentally stronger and hungrier next season.”
Unlucky.
