2017 was plagued with top players being injured throughout the season, 2018 may have a similar script at least in January.

Rafael Nadal, Stan Wawrinka, and Andy Murray

are among the players that are expected to come back at the Australian Open, but now there are some dark clouds on the horizon.

Nadal

Rafa has been struggling for his entire career with his knee, and unfortunately after he wasn’t able to complete his run in Bercy 2 weeks before the problem came back strong at the end of the season as Rafa had to withdraw from the ATP finals.

According to reports, Rafa had to cancel his training session with Joao Sousa to fly to Barcelona for a medical consultation. This is not a good sign.

Murray

Andy has been recovering from a persistent hip injury that has dented his 2017. Last year the Briton stopped his season just before the US Open. Andy was meant to fly to Australia before Christmas as he was expected to compete in Brisbane (1-8 January). Eventually, Andy has postponed his trip, and there are strong doubts about his fitness.

Wawrinka

Stan had a career-threating injury to his knee. The Swiss has also stopped his 2017 season halfway through to have an operation. Wawrinka was meant to compete at the Mubadala World Championship in the following days, but eventually he decided to skip it adding that he was not able to properly compete.

Let’s hope to see them all fully fit for Melbourne!
