21-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas is currently representing Greece in the Davis Cup. Stefanos has won 3 ATP singles titles and is viewed as one of the most promising players of the next generation. Expectations are that he can win some Grand Slams in the near future, especially as the Big Three of Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic draw nearer to the end of their careers.
Go far in the Cup
Speaking after defeating Hubart Hurkacz, The Greek expressed his joy at playing for his country and feels that it brings him a sense of fulfillment. Stefanos said, “It’s a different feeling. I am playing for the team. I would love to play Davis Cup even more. Now that we have made so much effort to reach the play-offs, we have to continue. I do not want to put it aside. I am interested in my country and team and we have chances to go even further. I know how it feels to play for a national team.”
The Olympics in Tokyo 2020
With the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo approaching, Stefanos hopes he can gain some experience from the Davis Cup to as he hopes to represent his country at the games. “I really hope I leave from here with something good in the back of my shoulders. For us, it means everything, participating in the Olympics and for sure a medal. I really want to play the Olympics next year, it’s one of my goals to make it.”
Playing his best tennis
For the moment, Stefanos is focusing on the Davis cup and hopes to help his country progress in the competition. He is also stated that he felt there less pressure playing for his country.
“I fought many times when I was younger representing my country in summer camps, but it was much more different than the tour. And it’s a nice feeling to play for a team. The nerves are different. When you are on the court, you feel you have nothing to lose, you play freely. You do not seek points or money and so it’s special. You play your best tennis.”
On his favorite Davis Cup moment, Stefanos picks the win by the Serbian team in 2010. “I remember Serbia, in particular, winning the Davis Cup, which meant a lot to them when they won it, with Djokovic included in the team. And for a small nation like Serbia, with not so much, let’s say at the time, great players, they achieved something spectacular and they brought joy to their people.”

Ranked no.7, Stefanos played his last match on the 27th of August when he lost to Andrey Rublev 6-4 6-75 7-67 7-5 in the 1st round in U.S. Open.
This year Tsitsipas has a 37-19 win-loss record. The Greek conquered 2 titles in 2019 in Marseille and in Estoril. Tsitsipas was the finalist in Dubai and in Madrid.
