Why Serena Williams is confirmed to play the Australian Open

Serena Williams had an incredible 2017 after she won the Australian Open when she was pregnant to then have her beautiful baby and get married.

The American is already training to try to stage an incredible comeback and defend her title in Melbourne. There were some doubts about the fact if Serena was going to compete in the first slam of 2018, but the tournament director of the Australian Open, Craig Tiley, explained why he is sure she will play the event.

“She’s got her visa; she’s entered, she’s practicing,” he commented. “There’s no question she’ll be ready in our view.”

Craig also added that Serena (23 slams) wants to break Margaret Court record (24 slams) to comment “She wants to break a record that is Margaret Court’s. It would be a pretty significant accomplishment for her to be able to do that.”
