Djokovic,Federer advance to the 3rd round. 2012 Wimbledon – Interviews

No problems for the two top players to advance to the 3rd round

FEDERER – FOGNINI  6-1, 6-3, 6-2

Routine stuff for Roger that conceded only 6 games to the Italian. The Swiss Maestro was also blessed by the presence of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker. The difference between the 2 players was quite embarassing with Roger wrapping up the match in only 74 minutes winning 84 points (vs 49), breaking Fognini 6 times without conceding a break point.

“I’m very happy to have won and to be back on Centre Court. It’s great to have that feeling and to see Charles and Camilla up there is just great for tennis,” said Federer. “We were told beforehand that they were coming and we were asked to bow. We said no problem.”

Federer will play Benneteau in the 3rd round. Head to head Roger is 2-1 up. He lost the last match in Paris in 2009.

DJOKOVIC – HARRISON 6-4 6-4 6-4

This match was a bit trickier than expected with both players forced to adjust their tennis when the roof was closed. Djokovic had to work his way through as he conceded 6 break points to save all of them in the same game (the sixth of the second set) . The Serb was very effective in taking his chances to convert all 3 break points conceded by Harrison (1 for every single set).

“It was more difficult than the scoreline suggests. It was a great match and I was in trouble in the second set,” said  Djokovic, “But under the roof, the conditions were difficult and you had to adjust your movements.”

Nole will play either against Stepanek for Becker in the 3rd round.
