Angelique Kerber and her coach Torben Beltz have achieved a lot together.

The first time they teamed up was back in 2003 till 2014; then they partnered again in 2015  achieving fantastic results. In fact, under Torben’s guidance, Angelique had a fantastic season in 2016 when she won 2 slams (the Australian Open and the US Open) before ending the year as the world no.1

Things got sideways in 2017 after the German lost 23 matches (she has a grim 28-23 record), and she wasn’t able to win a single title. Eventually, Angelique’s ranking went south, and she is now out of the top20 (she is no.21). After this season, Angelique decided to split with Torben to partner with Wim Fissette that has already teamed up with top players such as Kim Clijsters, Sabine Lisicki, Vika Azarenka, Simona Halep, and Jo Konta.

The Statement

Angelique released the following statement on Twitter

It’s been tough but I’m about to start a new chapter in my career, with a new coach. Thank you @TorbenBeltz

for everything that you’ve done for me. We share the best memories of my career so far and you’ve not just been a coach, but also a true friend and that won’t change.

The next season is coming soon and I’m very excited to start working with @WimFissette as my new coach. It’s a new chance and I’m curious to find out what we can achieve together.

Let’s see how it goes.
