Chung wins the Next Gen Finals

Hyeon Chung surprises everyone after winning the inaugural edition of the Next Gen Finals in Milan without losing a single match.

The South Korean achieved this feat after beating Andrey Rublev for the second consecutive time this week in the final in 4 sets. The Asian already defeated the Russian in the Round Robin 4-0 4-1 4-3 (3) before beating Andrey again in the final 3-4 (5) 4-3 (2) 4-2 4-2.

I don’t know how I won this title. CHUNG

Soon after beating Rublev an always humble Chung commented

“I’m just really, really happy, because, I don’t know, I really don’t know how I won here in Milan. A really tough match tonight against Rublev. He was better than the last time [we played]. So, I was just trying to play my best.”

I lost because of my emotions. RUBLEV

Soon after the match, Andrey commented

“I was playing much better than him. I was dictating the match, and then just because I let my emotion go out and everything changed, because of Chung, he was always there. He was always focused. He was always in the match. No matter if something went wrong, he was still fighting.”

After this match, Chung will pocket a nice $390,000 check, while Rublev will get $235,000. No bad.
