1 thing was key for Dimitrov to get to the top

After so much work and so much fighting, Grigor Dimitrov has finally qualified for the World Tour Finals. 3 years ago, the Bulgarian was the alternate, but eventually, he didn’t manage to play; this year is in it 100%!

During a recent interview, Grigor explained what was essential for him to reach this milestone.

Planning, planning, and planning

According to the Bulgarian, everything started with Dani Vallverdu coming on board as his coach in August 2016 when Grigor was ranked only no.40 and in freefall.

“Initially, I sat down with Dani and the rest of the team to map out a plan,” explained Grigor. “’This is what we’re going to do now’… ‘This is how we’re going to do it’ and ‘Let’s go from there.’ It was basically about simplifying everything as much as possible, from my fitness to the on-court work to the off-court work.

Setting regular targets – short-, medium- and long-term – has helped to develop my confidence and consistency.

There comes a time when you realize that you can play good tennis, you deserve to be toe-to-toe with and beat the top guys. Learning to be patient has also made a big difference.”

Grigor is currently ranked no.6, and it has a shot at ending the season as no.4. Let’s see what he can do at the upcoming Finals.
