Match with Coco Gauff

Speaking about her US Open performance, Ellen praised Osaka for her gesture towards 15-year-old teenager Coco Gauff after Osaka eliminated her in the third round in the main draw. Osaka invited Gauff to address the crowd even if she lost with her. Osaka said of the gesture, “I saw that she was kind of tearing up a little. Then it reminded me how young she was. I was just thinking, like, it would be nice for her to address the people that came and watched her play. They were cheering for her. Yeah, I mean, for me, it was just something that was, I don’t know, instinctive I guess.” Coco appreciated the gesture from Osaka telling the press, “I think she really showed sportsmanship tonight. I mean, I wasn’t expecting it. I’m glad that I was able to experience that moment. I’m glad the crowd was kind of helping me and her.”

Crush on Michael B. Jordan

Ellen and Osaka also joked about Osaka’s crush on actor Michael B. Jordan. Osaka had admitted to having a crush on the actor on her first appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show and Ellen went ahead and texted the actor about Osaka’s crush. Osaka said, “I like just being straightforward and honest, so yeah that usually gets me in a lot of trouble, like with you. Because last time I was here, you just did me dirty.” Ellen defended reaching out to Michael saying she was just trying to help the tennis star. “All I did was try to fulfill a fantasy of yours.”
