I was too scared to play in Paris. FEDERER

Roger Federer had an outstanding season this year.

The Swiss Legend has won 7 titles in total with 2 slams, and 3 Master ATP1000 included. Roger achieved this feat even if he is at the very last stage of his incredible career and he keeps on battling more and more with injuries.

Federer decided not to play in Bercy after he won the home tournament in Basel for the 8th time because he didn’t feel confident with his body and he didn’t want to compromise his chances to be fully fit for the Finals in London.

Roger’s decision made Guy Forget, the director of the ATP1000 just missed by Roger, to go berserk and to accuse the Maestro of weakening the credibility of the tour (???).

Once more, Roger had to explain why he decided not to compete in Paris to release the following comments to the Swiss newspaper 20 Minuten

“Do not believe that the place of No 1 does not interest me anymore. In the end, that’s why we play tennis and missing this tournament Bercy that I love, which is played in a city that I love too, costs me a lot.

But I’m too scared to hurt myself.”

Why it was a good move

Roger may still remember when he decided to lay in Montreal to rush his comeback from the grass season. Eventually, Federer reached the final, but he got injured and that had an extremely bad repercussion on his “American Summer” as he had to skip Cincinnati (a tournament that he had a lot of success), and he reached “only” the quarters at the US Open.

The Swiss didn;t want that to happen again at the Finals.
