Medvedev and Berrettini are back in action after their fantastic run in New York

The ATP250 in St. Petersburg will have a fantastic line-up this year with some of the top protagonists of the recently concluded US Open. Daniil Medvedev, Matteo Berrettini, Karen Khachanov, and Stan Wawrinka will be in action in Russian. The event will start the upcoming 16th of September.

Medvedev the top seed

Daniil Medvedev was screaming for some rest after his tiring and successful summer in North America. The Russian reached 3 finals (Washington, Montreal, and at the US Open) and he won the title in Cincinnati. Currently ranked no.4, Daniil will be top seeded in the home tournament.

Berrettini chasing points for the ATP Finals

Matteo Berrettini was the “other youngster” to surprise in New York after he reached the semifinal. The Italian is currently ranked no.9 in the year to date rankings and he is, therefore, looking forward to winning more points to qualify for the ATP Finals in London.

Karen Khachanov and Stan Wawrinka will also be among the top stars in Russia. With a 20-20 win-loss record in 2019, the Karen is having a rather disappointing season especially after he won the last ATP1000 of 2018 in Bercy. Wawrinka is bouncing back after his struggles with his knee. Stan reached the quarters at the US Open and he is looking forward to winning his first title of the season.

The defending champion is Dominic Thiem tat last year defeated Martin Klizan 6-3 6-1 in the final.
