Del Potro wins the title in Stockholm

Juan Martin Del Potro wins his 1st title of the season, the 20th of his great career, in Stockholm. The Argentine played a fantastic tournament in Sweden that ended with a solid win over Grigor Dimitrov in the final.

The final

Even if Dimitrov may have been considered the favorite to win the contest against the Argentine, Del Potro was in firm control for the entire match to break the Bulgarian already in the 5th game (3-2) before winning the opener (6-4). The second set was one-way traffic with Del Potro breaking Grigor twice in the 3rd (2-1) and the 7th game (5-2) game. At that point, Delpo’s lead was too much, and the Tower of Tandil won the match 6-4 6-2 in just 83 games.

I played the best match of the week

Del Potro was elated for this title also because he was already the defending champion of the tournament. The Argentine commented

“I played the best match of the week against Grigor today. Unlucky for that, sorry Grigor. It’s amazing to come back and hold this big trophy. And hopefully, I can come next year as well. I love to be in Stockholm. I like the city a lot. I like the Swedish people, and you treated me very, very good this week and I would like to thank everyone.”

Now Dimitrov will head to Vienna while Del Potro will go and play the event in Basel. Life on tour goes on.
