Jelena Ostapenko has been the player that has surprised the most in 2017 on the WTA tour. The Latvian has started the season as world no.44, and she is now ranked no.7; Jelena won her maiden title at the Roland Garros (!!!) and then she triumphed in Seoul. The Latvian has also reached the final in Charleston, and she has reached the semi-final in Wuhan.

After this feat, Ostapenko has managed to qualify for Singapore where she has also received the award as the Most Improved Player of the Year.
