If you talk to a random person in the streets, there is a good chance that they have not heard of Bianca Andreescu before this week. But with the 19-year old Canadian tennis star winning the 2019 U.S. Open, she may be on her way to establishing herself as a household name. When she defeated icon Serena Williams with a 6-3 7-5 score, she immediately jumped to no. 5 in the world rankings. Before the New York tournament, she was hovering within the top 20 list.

Parents, Coach, team a big part of Bianca Andreescu’s success

Andreescu said that her parents are a big reason why she is what she is now. She said that she is thankful for the support that her parents always gives her. She is also grateful that her parents still treat her normally so she can remain grounded as if she did not just win a major Grand Slam tournament.

As for her team, Andreescu also thanked them for helping her train. After the media interviews that she had to do when she won the U.S. Open, she gathered all members of the team to thank them for their continuous support. They then went to a Japanese restaurant in the city to celebrate further.

Even with her win, Andreescu continues to be a humble personality. Right after she won, she proved how Canadian she is by telling the crowd that she is sorry for defeating Williams.

Andreescu’s Mother Maria

Bianca has always expressed her gratitude for her mother Maria that also helped her with meditating. A practice that was essential for her to keep calm during the US Open final against Serena Williams.

Andreescu’s rise

It was not always so easy for Andreescu. The Canadian ace climbed up through hard work as she continually rose through the list. An injury in her right shoulder, however, prevented her to compete during the clay and grass court season.

While she won her first WTA title in Indian Wells, the media were even more interested in her when she bagged the Rogers Cup. Andreescu repeating her victory over Williams during the US Open only strengthened her credibility in the courts as a tennis player. Meanwhile, Andreescu has also expressed interest in entering the Tokyo Olympics next year. She said that she thinks the Olympics is a “special event.” She is especially interested in the different dynamic that the team setting of the Olympics gives when compared to the individualistic culture within the WTA Tour.
