Joao Fonseca arrives in Paris with renewed confidence after withdrawing from Hamburg due to a wrist issue. The young Brazilian reassured that he is now fully fit. “I’m feeling much better. It’s nothing that serious to worry about. With the French Open coming I just wanted to fully recover. Excited to be back in Paris,” he said.

Life on tour and companionship

Fonseca reflected on the challenges of adapting to the professional circuit, admitting the loneliness that can come with constant travel. He explained why some players choose to bring pets with them. “The Tour is tough, I’m still trying to understand. Still my second year but you spend a lot of time alone. A dog is a partner so I can see why some players travel with dogs. It’s kind of a friend as well. I don’t see me bringing her because my parents would be mad, but I can understand that,” he commented.

Relationship with fame

The rising star also spoke about how he is adjusting to the spotlight. “I think the first time that I felt I was becoming a little bit more famous was after Rublev last year. At first my parents came to me saying I was becoming more famous and I said okay, for me it’s just normal. Nowadays I think I’m still getting used to it, but hopefully I can achieve better results, better ranking and fame is going to come at all cost. It has its benefits and sometimes can be a little bit when you want something quiet and people know you. But the benefit is that you have their support, kids coming to say you inspire them. For me it’s just a simple thing taking a picture and for them it’s something huge, so that’s super nice,” Fonseca explained.

Goals for the French Open

Looking ahead to his campaign, Fonseca outlined his ambitions with a balanced mindset. “A good Roland Garros for me would be playing good tennis, stay healthy and try to do my best. I just wanna go out of the court knowing that I did my best. Of course I wanna reach R16, QF for the first time, but it’s one step at a time,” he said.

Fonseca’s words reveal both his determination and humility as he prepares to take on the French Open stage, aiming to combine performance with personal growth in his second year on tour.
