Halep once again 1 win from being world no.1

It’s difficult to remember how many times this year Simona Halep was 1 win away from finally claiming the top spot in the rankings to then miss it. Probably the most traumatic experience for the Romanian was when she lost to Jelena Ostapenko in the French Open final when she was in firm command for most of the match to lose the opportunity to win her first slam and get the 1^st spot in the rankings at the same moment.

Once again, Ostapenko will be the last hurdle for Simona for the world no.1 rank as the Romanian will face Jelena in the Beijing semi-final. 

Simona is having a very good tournament in China in particular in the last 2 matches when she demolished Maria Sharapova 6-2 6-2 and Darya Kasaktina 6-2 6-1. She definitely wants to repeat the same performance in the semi-final.

Let’s see if she will make it this time.
