Mario Ancic retires from Professional Tennis

The professional tennis lost a very talented player whose carrier was always plagued by a score of injuries.
‘The decision to end my career was extremely difficult but after consulting experts from Croatia, the US, France and Germany I realised that my body can no longer keep up with the rhythm of today’s tennis, he last back injury was the last straw
‘It was one of the toughest decisions I ever had to make, I’m only 26, but my body said I would not be able to continue on a high level.’
He then added ‘I was advised to either undergo surgery or go through a conservative method, but I had no guarantee with either option.’
‘This is a difficult, emotional day for me. However, I don’t want it to be a sad day and I would like to still be remembered for everything I did in tennis and for the glory I brought to both Split and Croatia.’
‘Everything has en end. For me it was beautiful while it lasted and that is why this is a happy day,’ he commented.
Ancic won the Davis Cup in 2005 and won a bronze medal in double (with Ivan Ljubicic) in the Olympic games in Athens.
He also reached the 2004 Wimbledon semi-final and he managed to beat the future king of grass Roger Federer in his debut in Wimbledon in 2002 (in the opening round!).
The Croat will refocus his career in law.
Good Luck!
