The upcoming Latvian showed off again her trademark aggressive tennis during her quarterfinal against Garbine Muguruza in Wuhan. As usual, Jelena was completely unfazed after she lost 6 consecutive games in the opener to lose the 1st set 6-1. Jelena won the second set 6-3 after a roller coaster filled with 6 breaks on 9 games. In the decider, the Latvian was 0-2 down before she conquered the following 6 games to clinch the match 1-6 6-3 6-2 in 1 hour and 57 minutes.
Next vs. Ashleigh Barty
Jelena will play Ashleigh Barty in the semi-final. The young Australian is having a blistering tournament after she upset Johanna Konta, Agnieszka Radwanska, and Karolina Pliskova in the quarters.
The head to head is 1-0 for Jelena that has defeated Barty in Rome 5-7 6-4 6-4.
