Jelena Ostapenko reaches the US Open 3rd round!
The upcoming Latvian is well-known for her aggressive tennis that often produces erratic results like the one in the first round when she won a weird match against Arruabarrena 6-2 1-6 6-1. Things got steadier for the Latvian in the 2nd round when Jelena defeated a dangerous Sorana Cirstea 6-4 6-4.
The match
Jelena started the match in the best possible way after she broke Sorana in the very first game (1-0). Eventually, the Latvian didn’t drop a single serving game in the opener to win 6-4. Things got a bit more “Ostapenko-like” in the second set after the duo dropped their serve for 4 consecutive games (3-2 for Cirstea). Then, it was time for Jelena to take off, and the Latvian won 4 of the next 5 games to conquer the match after 90 minutes.
13 double faults
Jelena committed a whopping 13 double faults in the contest. She has committed 5 only in the 8th game of the opener when she was leading 4-3, but she surprises after she managed to hold her nerves and win her serve.
Next vs. Kasaktina
Jelena will face Darya Kasaktina in the 3rd round. The head to head is1-aal. Even if Ostapenko is the favorite, this match can really go anyway.
