Muguruza demolishes another opponent

Garbine Muguruza is by far the strongest female player in the world right now. Besides leading the year to date rankings, the Spaniard has recently won Wimbledon and Cincinnati, and she is demolishing everyone that stands in her way.

The 2nd round

Garbine had no problem in getting to the US Open 3rd round after she dismissed Ying-Ying Duan in the second round with a smooth 6-4 6-0. Muguruza took off from the 8th game (she was 3-4 down) to conquer the following 9 games after she dropped only 7 points in the entire 2nd set.

This is the third consecutive bagel (6-0) that Garbine has served in the last three matches.

About becoming the new world no.1

Garbine is among 7 players that can end up the US Open fortnight as the world no.1, but she maintains that she doesn’t care much about that. The Spaniard commented

“All I want is to win matches, and the ranking sooner or later will come. I try to focus on more winning matches here and try to go forward rather than the ranking because is the first step, to win matches, getting far in the tournament, and we see after.”

Next vs. Rybaricova

Garbine will face the seed no.31 Magdalena Rybaricova in the third round. The head to head is 3-2 for the Spaniard that has conceded just 2 games to Magdalena in their recent semifinal match in Wimbledon (6-1 6-1). Muguruza will try to do the same in New York.
