Incredible stuff at the US Open in the ladies’ draw as Maria Sharapova (wildcarded) will clash against Simona Halep in the first round!
This match will have a lot of meaning because on one side Maria is trying to get back to her previous stellar levels, on the other Simona will chase once again the elusive world no.1 rank. Maria is also leading Simona 6-0 in the head to head matches.
Pliskova
Seeded no.1, Karolina had a fantastic draw to face Linette in the opener and then probably Gibbs, Zhang, Mladenovic, Radwanska or Kuznetsova, and Kerber or Svitolina in the semifinal. The Czech was last year’s runner-up after she lost in the final against Angelique Kerber.
Muguruza
Garbine has definitely a shot at winning her 3rd slam after her recent triumphs in Wimbledon and Cincinnati. The Spaniard will face Lepchenko in the opener and then probably Duan, Rybakova, Kvitova, Wozniacki or Venus Williams, and Halep or Sharapova in the semifinal.
