Grigor Dimitrov has a rather inspiring start of his campaign in Cincinnati after he defeated Feliciano Lopez in straight sets in his opener.

The first set against the Spaniard was decided at the breaker that Grigor conquered at 5; the second set was a bit smoother for the Bulgarian sensation that got the decisive break in the 3rd game (2-1) before winning the match 7-6 (5) 6-4. Probably the most important moment was when Grigor has managed to save 2 consecutive break points (15-40) when he was leading 4-2 in the second set.

Soon after the match, Grigor explained how being confident was essential for him to win this contest.

“I think early on, he was serving very well,” commented Dimitrov. “I think it was just important for me to stay in the game and just put as many returns in as I could to get in the rally because as soon as that was happening, I felt I had a pretty good chance of winning every point.

I felt early on I had almost too many break points. All of them were pretty well served by him. I couldn’t do much else, but I think as soon as the tie-break started, I felt a bit more comfortable. I think actually my confidence was very high, especially in those tight moments. So that’s a good sign for me.”

Next vs. Del Potro

Grigor will face Juan Martin Del Potro in the 3^rd round. Even if he head to head is 5-0 for the Argentine, Grigor should be the favorite to win this one.
