Zverev solid to the Montreal semi-finals

Alexander Zverev has a very mature performance against Kevin Anderson in the Rogers Cup quarters. The German wasn’t at his very best, but after such a successful season he has learned how to win a tennis match even if his tennis is not 100% there.

The match

After an exchange of breaks in the 3rd (2-1) and 4th (2-2) game, Sascha found the decisive break in the 11th game (6-5) before winning the opener 7-5. In the second set, Zverev went into cruise control after he broke the South African in the third game (2-1) to hold his serve until the end of the contest. The final score was 7-5 6-4.

       

The semis vs. Shapovalov

Sascha will face Denis Shapovalov in the semi-final They have never played each other at ATP level and the German shares his admiration for what the young Canadian is achieving to comment

“He’s doing an amazing job of getting to the semis here. He’s so young. He’s playing amazing tennis. I’m going to try to play the best tennis that I can, to make it difficult for him. It’s going to be, hopefully, a great match.”
