Denis Shapovalov wins an immense battle on Tuesday against Dutra-Silva in the Montreal 1st round.

Denis had to save 4 match points with some amazing tennis in the second set tiebreak before winning the match 4-6 7-6 (8) 6-4. Shapovalov was amazing in saving the second match point with a gutsy volley at the net.

Soon after the match, Denis commented

“I don’t remember all of them, honestly. I wasn’t holding back. I just told myself, ‘He’s got to win it from me. I’m not going to give it to him.’ I think I did a good job to stay tough out there.

Obviously, after the breaker, I felt the momentum was shifting towards my way. I thought if I could get an early break, it would help me. I think I played really good tennis in the third set.”

Next vs. Del Potro

Denis will play Juan Martin Del Potro in the second round. They have never played each other, and this will be a very important experience for him.
