Zverev reaches the Washington semi-finals in style

No problems for Sascha Zverev to defeat a dangerous Daniil Medvedev in the Washington quarters. The Russian was a having a fantastic run in DC after he beat Opelka, Johnson, and Dimitrov, but he couldn’t do much against the German. Sascha won the first set after grabbing a 5-1 lead without encountering any resistance. The second set was much more even with the world no.8 gaining the decisive break only in the 9th game (5-4) before winning the contest 6-2 6-4 in just 57 minutes.

After the match, Sascha commented

“I love the atmosphere and the people in Washington. It’s a young crowd, and they’re very loud, so it’s always fun to play here. I’m just happy to be through to the semi-finals, but obviously, don’t want to stop here.”

 

 

Next vs. Nishikori

Zverev will face Kei Nishikori for a place in the final. The Japanese reached the final 4 after he saved 3 match points against the world no. 225 Tommy Paul. Sascha and Kei have never played each other so far.
