Not a lot of people know how much of a family man Roger Federer is. The 20-time Grand Slam winner is married to former WTA player Miroslava Federer (Mirka). The couple has two sets of twins and they currently live in the municipality of Basel in Switzerland. In fact, his family life is among the things that the Swiss tennis player is looking forward to outside of the court.
Roger Federer loves his wife Mirka’s cooking
In a recent interview, Federer has confessed that he loves the dishes that his wife Mirka cooks for them. Pasta is Mirka’s specialty but she also tries out different things once in a while. Federer also says that eating in restaurants is nothing compared to eating the food his wife cooks at home because he likes the feeling of eating with family.
As for his own cooking skills, Federer admitted that he does not know how to cook. He has not tried cooking spaghetti, for example, even though it is something that he regularly eats.
As far as other interests that Federer has outside the tennis court, he says he likes playing the guitar and saxophone. Once he has more time in the future, he says that he wants to improve his skills on these two instruments further. Meanwhile, he is notoriously bad at figure skating, which he once tried.
Federer’s family life
The couple first met during the 2000 Sydney Olympics, where they both represented Switzerland. Mirka, who also competed in all the Grand Slam events from 1999 to 2001, had to retire from professional tennis because of chronic foot trouble. But their romance continued until they started living together in 2003. They eventually got married in a wedding ceremony in Basel, Switzerland.
Mirka, for her part, wanted to have kids early. She had a unique reason: she wanted to make sure that their kids will be able to witness their dad at his peak as a tennis player. It can be remembered that at the final rounds of the 2017 Wimbledon event, all four children were there to support their father.
When will Federer retire?
In other news, the question of his retirement is not new to Federer. When he failed to win a Grand Slam between 2011 and 2016, it seemed like Federer was already on his way to retirement. But starting 2017, he snagged three more Grand Slam wins.
While Federer is still at his peak, the athlete is hesitant to walk away. But he did say that he will retire once his family gets tired of the constant traveling that they have to make because of his career.
