Wait a few years and you will see the name Bianca Andreescu everywhere. The young Canadian tennis player has seen a massive year after she surprised everyone with a championship title in Cincinnati and at the Rogers Cup 2019. Now that she is competing in her first Grand Slam tournament since her victory in Toronto, all eyes are on her as she sets to get her first title in one of the most important events in the tennis world.
Bianca Andreescu consoling Serena Williams…
Andreescu strongly made an impression earlier this month when she was crowned the winner of the Rogers Cup, not just because of the strong showing she had in the tournament. When her idol Serena Williams dropped out after the first set of the final rounds because of back spasms, Andreescu immediately went to her side and consoled her. Williams herself praised her for what he did and call her a “great sportswoman.”
… and the praises from Justin Trudeau
The rising star also received praises from the leader of her country, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who complimented her for being an inspiring young woman playing in a field of sports. Andreescu’s win made her the first Canadian in 50 years to win the Roger’s Cup.
She was also commended by other celebrities and personalities including tennis icon Billie Jean King and former Australian tennis player Rod Laver. Andreescu has confessed to being overwhelmed to the response to her win and her kind act, with the praise from King being a highlight for her. She said that she hopes to follow both Williams and King’s footsteps to contribute to the fight for women’s equality.
Andreescu’s prize money earnings
To put Andreescu’s win under perspective, we need to look at her massive rise in the rankings in the past year. Within 12 months, Andreescu rose 194 steps to No. 14 in the WTA rankings. Before 2019, you would also see that she only earned around $200,000, which is nothing compared to the $2.2 million she has earned in 2019 alone.
Of course, companies have started noticing her rising stardom. She is now an endorser of BMW Canada and vegan chain Copper Branch. Nike also provides for her sporting attire, as seen in her most recent tournaments.
I didn’t expect this coming so quickly. ANDREESCU
During the US Open Media day, Biana admitted:
“I didn’t expect anything to come this quickly, but I do believe that I’m capable of doing big things. So I’m just really happy with how everything’s turning out right now.”
