Simona Halep 1 step from history

Simona Halep is getting there!

The Romanian sensation had a great semifinal against a surprising Karolina Pliskova to beat the Czech in 3 sets. Simona was the clear favorite in this contest against Karolina because the Czech is not a clay court specialist (at all) and the dirt is Halep’s favorite surface.

Pliskova surprised everyone (herself included) after reaching the semifinal at this French Open edition, but there were question marks about her chances against the Romanian. Karolina was still able to put up a fight also because she knew that reaching the Roland Garros final would have allowed her to be the new world no.1.

After losing the first set, the Czech managed to surprise Simona to win the second, but the Romanian imposed her superior clay court tennis to conquer a decisive 4-1 lead in the third set before winning 6-4 3-6 6-1.

Simona won just 6 points more than Karolina (100 vs. 94); the Czech blasted 45 winners vs. Simona’s 14.

Being focus was the Key. HALEP

In the post-match press conference, Simona commented

“It’s a great feeling. What can I say? I feel like I have more experience. I’m happy, but I’m not that excited. I’m looking forward, actually, to play the final.

Today was a great battle. Every point was very important. I felt that I had to run for every ball, be focused on every ball. So, I’m happy with my performance.”

The final vs. Ostapenko

Simona will play the new Latvian sensation Jelena Ostapenko. They have never played each other so far. Simona is the favorite, but Jelena won’t let it go easily.
