Wawrinka reaches the Roland Garros semis after impressing march

Once again Stan Wawrinka is having another great run at the Roland Garros under the radar. During this French Open edition all eyes have been on Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, and Dominic Thiem, but eventually, the Swiss reached the semi-final without conceding a single set on the way.

The world no.3 has been rather impressive against an in-form Marin Cilic to concede just seven games to the Croatian. Stan was in full control of the entire match from the very beginning when he conquered a fast 3-0 lead in the opener to win the first set 6-3. The match lasted till the 6th game of the second set when the pair was battling on a 3-3 scoreline. Then, Wawrinka conquered 9 of the following ten games to win the match 6-3 6-3 6-1.

During the post-match press conference, Stan commented

“I didn’t expect that score, but I was confident with my game. I knew he was playing good, but I was confident with what I was doing since the beginning of the tournament. I think I know how to play him. Today was a perfect match for me from the beginning. I was playing the right plays. It’s great. I’m really happy to be in the semi-final here.”

The semi vs. Murray

Stan will play the final four against Andy Murray in what will be a reply of last year’s French Open semifinal when the Swiss lost in 4 sets. The head to head is 10-7 for Murray, but Stan leads 3-1 on clay.
