Amanda Anisimova left Freehold, New Jersey at the age of three when her family moved to Florida to support her older sister Maria’s tennis ambitions. While Maria went on to play college tennis at the University of Pennsylvania, Amanda rose to prominence on the professional circuit, eventually surpassing her sister’s achievements.

A breakout year

Anisimova has enjoyed a remarkable 2025 season, reaching the finals of both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. Her performances have propelled her to No. 4 in the world rankings, establishing her as one of the brightest stars in women’s tennis.

Exhibition at Prudential Center

On Sunday, Anisimova will return to New Jersey for an exhibition match at the Prudential Center in Newark. She will face fellow American and world No. 6 Jessica Pegula in the event titled “A Racquet At The Rock,” scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. The men’s match will feature world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz against No. 30 Frances Tiafoe, adding further star power to the evening.

Anisimova’s excitement

Speaking to NJ Advance Media in a Zoom interview from Miami, where she is currently training, Anisimova expressed her enthusiasm about the event. “I’m super excited to be coming back to Jersey. I haven’t been in a really long time, and just to connect with my roots and the people from there. A lot of my fans are from New Jersey, so I’m really looking forward to it. The event is going to be really special and I’m really excited for it,” she said.

Connecting with her roots

For Anisimova, the exhibition represents more than just another match. It is an opportunity to reconnect with her birthplace and the community that continues to support her career. The event is expected to draw significant attention, highlighting her journey from Freehold to the global tennis stage.
