Nadal not depressed after losing to Thiem

Rafael Nadal was on an amazing winning streak on clay after he won Monte-Carlo, Barcelona, and Madrid back to back. In the last two finals, he downed an excellent Dominic Thiem, but in the Rome quarters, it was the Spaniard to bow to the Austrian.

Dominic Thiem played a tennis out of this world against the Mallorcan to beat the King of Clay 6-4 6-3.

After so many years on tour, our Spanish sensation is used to accept defeats and not to get too excited when winning titles.

During a post-match interview in Rome, Rafa commented

“It’s normal that one day you don’t feel perfect. If you are unlucky on that day, the opponent plays unbelievable. So tomorrow, I will be in Mallorca fishing or playing golf or doing another thing. That’s it.

I never take Monte-Carlo, Barcelona or Rome like preparation. Every tournament is so emotional for me. Every tournament is so important. Every tournament by itself is important enough to not consider it like preparation for the other.

It’s obvious that I did not play my best match. I have been playing a lot. Madrid and Rome, back-to-back, after playing Barcelona and Monte-Carlo back-to-back, so it’s not easy after playing almost every day for the past four weeks.”

Thiem will face either Djokovic or Del Potro in the semi-final after they end their quarter today.
