The 2025 US Open is shaking up tradition with a reimagined mixed doubles event, designed to spotlight elite singles players in a fast-paced, two-day competition. Fourteen of the sixteen teams have now been confirmed, featuring a dazzling mix of Grand Slam champions, rising stars, and fan favorites. The tournament will take place August 19–20, just before the main draw begins, with a $1 million prize awaiting the winning pair.
Headliners and surprise pairings
Among the direct entries are powerhouse duos like Emma Navarro and world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud, and Elena Rybakina with Taylor Fritz. The pairing of Paula Badosa and Jack Draper raised eyebrows, as Badosa was initially expected to team up with Stefanos Tsitsipas (apparently they split), while Draper had been linked to Zheng Qinwen. Their new partnership adds intrigue to an already unpredictable draw.
Other notable teams include Amanda Anisimova with Holger Rune, Belinda Bencic and Alexander Zverev, Jessica Pegula alongside Tommy Paul, and Mirra Andreeva with Daniil Medvedev.
Wildcards bring drama and legacy
Six wildcard entries have been granted so far, including Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz, Madison Keys with Frances Tiafoe, and Novak Djokovic paired with Olga Danilovic. Taylor Townsend, currently ranked No. 1 in women’s doubles, joins forces with Ben Shelton, while defending champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori return to the field. Venus Williams, continuing her comeback at age 45, will partner with Reilly Opelka in one of the most talked-about entries.
Who’s still missing?
Two wildcard spots remain unclaimed. Fans are eagerly watching to see if Naomi Osaka and Nick Kyrgios, originally listed among the expected teams, will be confirmed. Kyrgios’ physical condition may be a factor in the delay. Also conspicuously absent are Katerina Siniakova and Marcelo Arevalo, the current doubles No. 1s, who have yet to receive an invitation.
A tournament built for spectacle
With short sets, no-ad scoring, and a compressed schedule, the US Open’s mixed doubles event promises high-intensity matches and unpredictable outcomes. By attracting top-tier singles players and injecting fresh energy into the format, organizers are betting on a thrilling showcase that could redefine the role of mixed doubles in Grand Slam tennis.
