Even if I lost I would have been happy. FEDERER

Roger Federer had a successful return to the pro circuit after a good win in the Australian Open first round against an ever dangerous Jurgen Melzer. After a weird start (Roger produced four shanks in the first game), the Maestro’s tennis looked back to his great levels. Probably the former world no.1 lost a bit of focus in the second set, but eventually his match was rather smooth. Roger won 7-5, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Even if I lost, I would have been happy. FEDERER

Roger felt blessed just for the fact that he was able to perform again at his levels to comment

“It was nice to be playing tennis again on a center court like this; I couldn’t be happier to be here now. It’s been a long road, but I’m in the draw which is a beautiful thing.

First rounds are never easy, so I’m happy to live another day. Any match is a good match. Even if I had lost today, it would have been good because I’m back on the court.”

Next vs. Rubin

Roger will play the world no.200 Noah Rubin in the 2nd round. They have never played each other so far. The American won Wimbledon (junior) in 2014.
