Why I decided to play the Mubadala World Tennis Championship. MURRAY

Andy Murray used to start his seasons by playing the Hopman Cup in Perth. This year, the Brit has changed his schedule to kick start his 2017 at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship allegedly for one reason: a better preparation for the Australian Open.

I needed to do something different

Andy has always performed well at the Australian Open to reach five finals, but he was never able to win the event. Therefore, this year he has decided to change something and start in Abu Dhabi where he should play a couple of highly competitive matches instead of participating in the round robin format in Perth.

Andy will play either Goffin or Tsonga in the MWTC semifinal.

The world no.1 has huge hopes for the upcoming Australian Open to comment

“I’ve played really well there in the past, and it hasn’t happened for me, so I’ll need to do something a little bit different this year.

I love the conditions there, and I enjoy the tournament a lot, and I’ll be going in hopefully playing well and with a lot of confidence because of the way I finished 2016, so I’ll give it a good go this year.”

Let’s see if this Mubadala World Tennis Championship will give that extra help to the Brit. We doubt it will be a critical factor, but if he thinks so…
